Zion Christian Church Statement of Faith

We Believe In God.

We believe in one God, the sovereign Creator and Sustainer of all things. He is our Father. He is infinitely righteous, just eternally existing in three Persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. (Deuteronomy 6:4; Matthew 28:18–20; Acts 5:3–4; Hebrews 1:1-3, 8; Matthew 6:9; John 3:16; 2 Corinthians 1:3; Ephesians 1:3)

We Believe In Jesus Christ.

We believe in Jesus Christ, the Son of the Living God. He is our Savior, Lord, and Head of the Church. He was conceived of the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, and lived a sinless life. We believe in His literal death by crucifixion, burial and resurrection from the dead. We believe that Jesus ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of God the Father, and that He will come again to judge the living and the dead. (Matthew 1:23; John 1:1; Ephesians 1:15–23; 1 Timothy 2:5–6; Hebrews 1:8; John 14:6; 2 Thessalonians 1:9; 1 Timothy 2:5–6)

We Believe In The Holy Spirit.

We believe in the Holy Spirit. He is our Comforter, Counselor, and Teacher. He seals the believer for the day of redemption and glorifies Christ by indwelling, filling, guiding, and empowering the believer for holy living. (John 7:38–40; 16:7–11; Acts 1:8; 5:5; 1 Corinthians 12:13; Galatians 5:16–18)

We Believe In The Inerrancy Of Scripture.

We believe that all Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness. We believe that the sixty six books of the Old and New Testaments are the plenary and unified witness to God's redemptive acts, culminating in the incarnation, life, death, resurrection and certain return of the Lord Jesus Christ. We affirm the necessity of interpreting Scripture according to the meaning its author intended. The Scriptures are the infallible Word of God and the supreme and final authority on all matters of faith and conduct. (Psalm 19:7–11; Matthew 5:18; 2 Timothy 3:16–17; 2 Peter 1:20–21)

We Believe In Salvation By Grace Alone, Through Faith Alone, In Christ Alone.

We believe that man; being estranged from God and condemned by his sinfulness is unable to contribute in any way to his salvation. Therefore, man is wholly reliant upon the saving work of God's grace, accomplished entirely and exclusively by Jesus Christ our Lord, through His substitutionary atonement made on behalf of sinful man through His crucifixion. God credits His righteousness to those who put their faith solely in the risen Christ for their salvation, thereby justifying them in His sight. Only those who have personally received Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior are born of the Holy Spirit and have become children of God and are as such, heirs of eternal life. (John 3:16; Acts 4:12; 1 Thessalonians 5:23; 1 Peter 3:18)

We Believe That God’s Children Are Called To Holiness.

We believe that those who are born of the Holy Spirit, having become children of God, are called to holiness, obedient to the Word of God, bearing the fruit of The Spirit as they are being conformed to the image of Christ. (John 3:3; 2 Corinthians 5:17; Titus 3:4–7; Romans 3:19–26, 5:1; Galatians 3:10–14; 1 Corinthians 1:30; 1 Thessalonians 2:19; 4:3; Romans 8:17)

We Believe In The Sanctity Of Human Life.

We believe that human life is created by God in His image. It is of immeasurable worth and significance in all its dimensions, including the preborn, the aged, the mentally disabled, those deemed unattractive, the physically challenged, and every other condition in which humanness is expressed from the single cell stage of development to natural death. Therefore, we believe that we are called to defend, protect, and value all human life. (Psalm 139:13–16; Revelation 5:9–10)

We Believe In The Sanctity Of Marriage.

We believe that marriage is a sacred covenant ordained by God and affirmed by Christ, between one man and one woman. We believe that human sexuality is the gift of God, intended to be enjoyed exclusively by couples united in marriage, thus keeping the marriage bed sacred. (Romans 1:18–32)
